Indiana Jones peers into the Well of the Souls

This gag came about while I was conducting an internet searching for a first edition copy of Rogue Herries by Hugh Walpole. That’s not true. I was trying to find a Shallow Gravy t-shirt. Anyway, you know how google just chucks all kinds of weird stuff in your searches that is in no way associated with your search? This time, I got a shot of Alan Rickman sitting on an airplane with the caption “Snapes on a Plane.” Funny, but I wasn’t a huge fan of Snakes on  Plane. I needed to make it my own.

Obviously I didn’t want to rip off this gag, but I wanted draw Snape (Alan Rickman’s kinda awesome), so I started wracking my brain for quotes or movie titles that either use the word snake, or rhyme with it.

After about 15 minutes, I thought of my all time favorite movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark. I was going to draw Indy yelling, “I hate Snape, Jaques! I hate him!” with Alan Rickman sitting on his lap in the front seat of the biplane he escapes in from the end of the first act. But that composition would’ve been tough to show Rickman and Indy and the biplane.

Then I remembered another line from the movie, “Snakes? Why’d it have to be snakes?” A quick google search for this gave me the image of Indy and Sallah peering into the Well of the Souls. Which meant that I got to draw multiple Alan Rickmans with different facial expressions. Perfect.
