I liked it.

Storytelling was a little clunky, but they had a lot to set up. I think future episodes will be smoother. Didn’t love all the casting choices. I’m to believe someone who looks like Chloe Bennet is the world’s greatest hacker and lives in a van? But whatever, it’s television. And really, it’s a show about super heroes, and I’m nit picking pretty people? Suspend thy disbelief, man!

Clark Gregg is awesome. He has all the best lines and it’s just nice to see him reprising the role. Every time he was on screen, I was happy. I think they could use less of the comic book speak. Things like “origin story” and the liberal use of “super hero” felt a bit forced. But most of it was clever and against type.

Nice start. I’d love for the show to really go deep into a world of superheroes and give us the kind of story telling you don’t find in 2 hour block busters. Hopefully they’ll work out the kinks soon and show us something we haven’t seen before.

  1. I agree Zack! The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot episode was good. They had a big chore of setting the world and the characters up within a hour and they did a great job with that while still giving us a good story. Grade “B” for the Pilot Episode.

I was disappointed in Episode 2. Now we have the world and characters introduced this episode focus more on the plot of the episode and it was very average. It was a simple plot without any clever twist or storytelling, just average. Grade “C” for Ep2.

The only exceptional thing about this show is Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg). Casting is this show biggest problem. Ming-Na Wen as Melinda May is good and Chloe Bennet as Skye is ok (even-though she does not look like a hacker who lives in a van). Brett Dalton as Grant Ward was not great casting. His acting is bland and I can’t buy him as a Bad-Ass like they are trying to portray him (He is a TV soap opera actor). Fitz and Simmons are cartoon characters I can’t judge their acting skills because at least they have character. I think Agent Coulson is great because he is an experienced actor with a character that has depth. I think if they casted these other actors with someone with more experience and 5-7 years older, I can buy them being agents. Super hero’s is an easier pill to swallow than 21 year-old agents.

I know it’s not fair to judge this show after watching a great a great show ended (Breaking Bad). But “Fair“ is just a place where they judge pigs.
